Refurbished - How do we refurbish selected products?

Here we take a look at the refurbishment process and how we test, clean and pack our goods so that they are of a high merchant quality. Only products listed in the REFURBISHED CATEGORY follow this process. All of the other items listed on this website are BRAND NEW.

There is a lot of confusion around the word "refurbished". To some it defines goods which have been used previously and are often damaged, scratched, dented, faulty or to a very poor standard. This often reflects a feeling that the product is "second hand" or it is "used".

However, at Powerbutton.co.uk we take a different approach to refurbishing electrical items.

So how does the refurbishment process work?

When we receive an item it is often boxed in its original packaging. We then undertake a 20 point inspection of the item which includes:

1 - Checking outer packaging of the unit for damages including dents, rips, tears or any other noticeable issues which may have impacted or reflect the condition of the item itself.

2 - Opening and unpacking the unit

3 - Checking for any missing accessories, manual or components in order for the item to operate as it was originally intended

4 - Checking for any dents to the items or it's components

5 - Checking or any scratches (from hairline to deep inputs to the casing)

6 - Checking for any blemishes or colour changes to the casing - particularly in the case of white plastic which can often discolour

7 - Checking of any other damage to unit or missing function controls

8 - Checking for any damage to the supplied accessories

9 - Power on, check to mains plug for any damage and powering on for function

10 - Testing - Carry out a complete check of all of the functions of the product to ensure the item is working to standard.

11 - Accessory testing - Testing any supplied accessories from the remote control to power supplies to ensure that all of the controls are working to standard

12 - Fault finding and repair - If a fault is found with the unit we undergo a deeper inspection and testing to supply and fit new parts to make the unit of merchantable quality. However this is increasingly rare and often these items are not listed on Repowered.co.uk

13 - Retest if required after repair if needed.

14 - Clean - professional clean to all of the components and accessories of the unit and polishing to remove light scratches if found.

15 - If the item has components which are sealed as new but the main processor has been tested, we leave the sealed components in their original packaging as new.

16 - Rebind any cabling within the box to avoid movement of plugs which may cause damage to the unit in transit.

17 - Repack - repack the unit as received to include any missing packaging so that the unit is unlikely to damage in any future transport to the end user.

18 - Source any missing accessories or manuals for the item in order to complete the product in it's original condition.

19 - Grading - From the condition of the unit we then take a view of it's grade and mark accordingly.

20 - Catalogue and resale - We record the testing taken and list for sale on Powerbutton.co.uk

By carrying out these 20 points for each and every item, our team ensures that the item you receive is "as new" and not second hand or used.

Most of the items you will see for sale on Repowered.co.uk are either new or listed as refurbished. In the case of refurbished however, most of these items are "14 day customer change of mind returns". In this case you will see them item listed "as new" which will be found in the product description of the item.

Again we are often asked if change of mind returns are "used" or are "second hand". Although the box has been opened there are common reasons as to why the item may have been returned to the retailer. These are:

- Change of mind - The original customer received the item but decided they no longer wanted it

- Wrong size - It is often the case where the customer has purchased the item but it did not fit into a space where they wanted to use it

- Wrong specification  - Upon opening, the customer believes they may have made a mistake with the specification required and therefore returns the item

We take time and care in the products we refurbish but despite this and as with electrical goods, faults can occur. This is why every item we sell on this website comes complete with a full 12 MONTH warranty for peace of mind. Should the item develop a fault from the date of receipt, we will either seek to replace or refund if the item is out of stock. Our general terms and conditions page gives more details regarding our warranty.
